This is a commission for The Dragon Phylogeny Project -- a collaboration among scientists, artists and educators exploring fundamental concepts in biology in the study of dragons depicted in historical works of art. This project started with an initial analysis for a T-Shirt showing the similarity among dragons
The Dragon Phylogeny is an application of statistical methods from a field of biology called Phylogenetics. This method involves translating biological features to a numerical matrix of values to look for similarities among different subjects. In this case, images of dragons were scored for a number of characteristics: tooth shape, skin texture, bone structure, number of legs, horns, etc. The main circular graphic on the T-shirt shows the similarity of dragons based on these traits.
Now we are engaging artists to create vector illustrations based on dragons depicted in historical (>100 year-old) artwork. The purpose is to simplify the images to make the key features more easy to distinguish. The two vector illustrations from previous projects and three art images for this project will provide once job awarded.
Deliverable:
- Vector image depicting one of the three artwork dragons
