Remote Web Development Job In IT And Programming

Update older Access 2003 DB program

Find more Web Development remote jobs posted recently Worldwide

My company has a custom written program (not sure what language), which was made in 2006, that runs only on windows XP, and uses an Access 2003 backend for its data source. This program still works properly to this day, but we need to keep 3 windows XP machines up and running to make it work. All this program does is take in data from our ERP system and enter it into a table in access 2003, then it utilizes a program called Hartenzer version 10 for template files and it builds a shipping label using both the template and the data from the Access 2003 table and prints out the correct number of labels with the proper information in the proper places on the label, and increments the labels accordingly.

Our goal is either of the 2 things,
- either update this program so it will run using an Access 2016 file instead and can be hosted and run on a windows 10 computer, so that we are no longer dependent on Windows XP and Access 2003 anymore.
- OR migrate all our existing data into a brand new system that accomplishes the same task using any other DB technology you prefer, but all existing functions must be preserved, and all historical data must be carried over to the new system so that it accomplishes the same functions and works on a windows 10 computer.

We would require the new system be easily updateable and would require all admin level and developer level passwords be given to us.

The label printers that this program prints to are networked Zebra XiIII 220 printers, and they print to 3 different size media
- 4 by 6 standard shipping labels, printed 2 across at the same time (but we would like the ability to switch to printing 1 across quickly and easily when needed)
- 3.5 by 1.5 printed 2 across at the same time
- 1.75 by 1 printed 4 across at the same time

We do not have the original source code for this program, we only have the client and server side install packages that the original programmer provided us and DB file as well.

The ERP system that submits the data into the database file is currently Microsoft Dynamics Nav 2009 R2, but we plan on updating that system to Dynamics 2018 edition in early 2020 if that matters.

Any questions or additional info needed, please let me know.
