Become a freelancer’s favorite client

You can easily find the best freelancer for your work and might want to stay with him for upcoming projects. But what if the freelancer didn’t like you and decides not to work with you?

It is not about the money or budget involved. But still the freelancer might find it difficult to work with you. Freelancers like not being bound or caged, instead they like being flexible. Means, for ex, he might like work with a target of working 40 hours (depending on contract) a week instead of 8 hours a day. Does not make a difference if you see the target, working 10 hours 4 days or 8 hours 5 days or 14 hours 3 days is totally a freelancer’s decision.

These tips will help you being the most favorite client top in the freelancers list.

Proper On boarding

On boarding sounds like hiring a full time employee but it is actually a good practice of hiring a freelancer as well. Proper on boarding process includes:

  • Define specifications
  • Clearing expectations
  • Discussing contract
  • Creating accesses for required application
  • Defining timelines and delivery schedule
  • Setting up communication channels
  • Scheduling regular meetings

Being available

Your project documentations could be strong enough to elaborate everything. But there will always be doubts and issues and limitations, be available to clear them and be responsive in the communication.

Micromanaging is not appreciated

You hired the freelancer with a proper process, believe in his judgments. There is always some aspects where a fresh pair of eyes could work better than your own. Let him take small decisions but be sure to be informed. If you micro manage everything yourself, you are not utilizing his full potential.

Exchange feedbacks

Constructive criticism makes the end results impeccable. Appreciate for the good work and milestones, criticize for gaps and expect the same in return. By doing this you are inspiring him to work devotedly on your project and put his best efforts.

Timely payments

Nothing is better than an on time payment without hurdles. On time payment works like a catalyst for maintaining a high quality standard in work. It is a little partiality to expect the work on time when payment is never made on time.

If 100 different rehiring attempts gets turned down by different freelancers, at least 80 would be because of timely payment issues. If something unplanned exception is stopping you to make timely payments, be clear and inform the freelancer transparently.
