We are looking for a GIS developer with strong Python skills to help us with a project using US Census information.
The successful candidate will be required to:
1. Develop a Python script to:
a. Pull specific US Census information into a Pandas DataFrame, and save it to a csv file (or ideally collaborate with our IT devs to automatically upload it to our cloud SQL tables).
b. Must be dynamic enough to allow us to add new data items and geographies to the query.
c. Script must be readable, and run with standard packages (ie. Usable in Google Colab environment)
2. Pull associated US Shapefiles, and organize them into a Mapbox layer that can easily be run as a Power BI tile. The resulting tool must be organized in a way that ensures fast performance in the end environment.
The resulting dataset will allow us to examine some simple performance metrics for various geographics, and include the ability to drill in by State, County, Micopolitan Statistical Area, Census Designated Places (CDP), and Tract (Blocks too if possible). The data can be restricted to 7 key states if needed to ensure performance, but we would like to see all data integrated ideally.
