Seeking advise on color schemes for puzzle maze toys

I need to choose colors for the parts of two puzzle maze toys that I am developing. In these puzzle toys players need to manipulate gears to solve the puzzle and get the ball from start to finish of the maze. These toys will be made from plastic. I was advised not to use primary colors for the puzzle parts because consumers associate them with toys for little kids. I am trying to determine which colors to choose for puzzle maze parts that suggest both the older age range (6+) and highlight greater complexity of the two different maze versions.

Previous experience designing consumer products and choosing age- and customer-appropriate color schemes is desired.

1) Pantone color recommendations for each toy part/group of parts
2) Renders showing each toy with recommended color scheme
